Additional funding
As part of the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact this has had on employment and skills, new payments were introduced for employers in England for each new apprentice they hired between 1 August 2020 and 31 March 2021. The payments are:
- £2,000 for each new apprentice aged under 25
- £1,500 for each new apprentice aged 25 and over
The scheme has now been extended so new apprentices employed between 1 April and 30 September 2021 will be supported by a government payment of:
- £3,000 for each new apprentice, regardless of age
These payments are in addition to the existing £1,000 employers receive to support 16-18 year old apprentices and those under-25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan. This is only for new employees.
